Neutron crystallography: methods and information content International Tables for Crystallography (2012). Vol. F, ch. 19.1, pp. 553-556 [ doi:10.1107/97809553602060000867 ] Abstract The application of the neutron-diffraction technique, which assigns H-atom positions in proteins and differentiates between H and D atoms, has been mainly focused on structural issues in three research areas: protein reaction mechanisms; protein dynamics; and protein–water interactions. Topics covered in this chapter include: diffraction geometries; the information content of neutron density maps; phasing models and evaluation of correctness; methodologies employed to refine neutron data; and D2O − H2O difference maps and their applications. |
