Abstract

Correct preparation of samples for collection of powder diffraction data is sometimes a tedious process, but is vitally important to get the quality of data that is required. Phase identification does not require the same quality of data as structure solution and refinement, and the care required to prepare suitable samples for the different analyses reflects this. This chapter provides practical advice to help obtain high-quality data, including different types of instrumentation in the laboratory and at central facilities (synchrotron radiation and neutron sources).
