Materials for energy storage and conversion
M. A. Rodriguez. International Tables for Crystallography (2019). Vol. H, ch. 7.3, pp. 752-758  [ doi:10.1107/97809553602060000977 ]

Abstract

The use of X-ray diffraction (XRD) as a diagnostic tool for materials analysis in the field of energy storage and conversion has served to move this field forward in many ways. This chapter gives examples of the use of XRD in areas such as the fossil fuels, hydrogen storage, renewables (wind/solar) and battery technology. The examples are taken from real-life problems posed by materials scientists and demonstrate the application of various XRD methods such as Rietveld refinement, grazing-incidence XRD, micro-XRD and in situ characterization methods to elucidate understanding of materials processing and its connection to performance.
