Definition:

   Signals how the object identified by _display_id is to be 
   displayed. The value 'text' signals that _display_symbol
   contains a character string for display; the value 'icon'
   signals that _display_symbol is a code which identifies
   the molecular symbol to be displayed; and the value 'null' 
   signals that no object will be shown at this site.
